Ana Lucía Pozas-Franco
Scientist & Communicator
Ana Lucía (she/her/ella) is a marine scientist and photographer focused on visual storytelling for eco-social justice.
With a Master of Science in Oceans and Fisheries from the University of British Columbia, Ana’s interest on ocean topics strengthened while working with The Nature Conservancy in La Paz, Mexico. Here, she learned scuba diving and underwater photography, while also learning about local ocean issues from talking to ecotourism guides and conservationists. This planted a motivation in her to communicate these important topics visually to wider audiences.
Since then, Ana Lucía has gained extensive experience in research and communications while working for academic and non-profit organizations. She has also obtained her Rescue Diver and Dry Suit scuba certifications, won photography awards, published peer-reviewed academic articles, and gained certificates in Knowledge Mobilization, Cinematography, and Directing. Recently, she produced a video on one of Celestún’s only fisherwomen, which was used in graduate classes to facilitate discussions on gender equity in the oceans.
Born and partly raised in Mexico, Ana Lucía also grew up in Belgium and France, adopting a third culture kid identity and developing a strong multicultural understanding. Currently, she is based in Vancouver and is a permanent resident of Canada.
Whether behind a camera or at a computer, Ana Lucía combines creativity and knowledge to connect, educate, and advance solutions to socio-ecological issues.

Ana Lucía is currently living on what is now Vancouver, the traditional, unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
